IHS is put on many Cross s today 

The Cross is a sacred emblem of the Christian faith. IHS (no periods) is supposed to be the three letters representing the Saviour's name in Latin.  No wonder John Wycliffe spelled his name starting with IH which stands for YaH as in HalleluYaH.  IHS is also used as the emblem of the Jesuit order.- World Book Dictionary.
